Contact, Flag Guard & Taunt

authored by Anonymous NIRSA Flag Football Rules Book 22nd Edition Rule 10-3-3 Page 85

Second and 5 at B’s 25. A-1 completes a legal forward pass to A-2. During A-2’s run, B-1 illegally contacts A-3 at B’s 18. A-2 then flag guards at B’s 10 and crosses B’s goal line. After the ball is dead but before the ready-for-play, A-2 taunts B-1. All penalties are accepted.

The illegal contact by B and flag guarding by A are live-ball fouls by opposing teams during a down with no change of possession, so they form a double foul. The touchdown is cancelled and the down is replayed from B’s 25. A-2’s taunt is a separate dead-ball unsportsmanlike foul and is enforced from that succeeding spot, moving the ball 10 yards back to B’s 35. The down is still replayed. The final result is A’s ball, 2nd and 15 at B’s 35. Rules 10-3-3, 10-1-4, and 10-3-2.
