Second and 12 at A’s 28. A-1 throws a legal forward pass that A-2 catches at B’s 35, where A-2 is immediately deflagged. While the pass is in flight, A-3 illegally contacts B-2 at A’s 25. After the ball is dead but before the ready-for-play, B-4 taunts A-2. Both offended teams accept the penalties.
The live-ball foul by A and the dead-ball foul by B are not a double foul. Enforce A-3’s illegal contact 10 yards from the previous spot because it occurred during a loose-ball play, moving the ball from A’s 28 to A’s 18. The down counts, so it is 3rd and 22. Then enforce B-4’s 10-yard dead-ball unsportsmanlike penalty from the succeeding spot, moving the ball to A’s 28. The final result is A’s ball, 3rd and 12 at A’s 28. Rules 10-1-4 and 10-2-4.
